Japanese-born painter Hiroshi Senju is noted worldwide for his sublime waterfall images in which he mixes traditional Japanese materials and Western visual language. Senju’s work is in collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Brooklyn Museum, New York; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco; the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, Missouri; the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto; and the Museum of Modern Art, Toyama, Japan, among others.

Beijing-based artist Zheng Lu, whose work is currently on view in Root Metaphor, a solo show at STG Chelsea, employs imagery of water and the principals that govern it to reveal a world we cannot see. He has shown his work in solo exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei, in 2015, one of the leading institutions in the region; the Long Museum, Shanghai, in 2016; and the Song Museum, Beijing, in 2017.
