Anne Mondro creates intricately woven anatomical sculptures in response to the physical and emotional complexities of the body. Drawn to visual metaphors, she interlaces delicate wire into representations of the body that are structurally strong, yet fragile in appearance and presentation. Working in this manner, she explores the duality of our strength and vulnerability. The methodical process used to fabricate the work serves as a reflective tool for her experiences and interactions with families affected by an illness. This has led to works depicting conjoined hearts, among others, which explore the acts of mending and transforming the heart. In some of her sculptural works, forms suggesting the body are paired together or reach out to each other in an attempt to continue to be intertwined.
