Hisako Kobayashi Exhibition
Tibet House
This event has ended.
Kobayashi’s slower moving, more intimate paintings–their more tender surface drawing us into the sensual depths, luring our psyche rather their overwhelming it, their calmer gestures softly touching the canvas rather than brusquely thrown down on it, their refined painterliness at odds with Pollock’s raw painterliness—embody the feminine sublime. –Donald Kuspit, American art critic
Hisako Kobayashi grew up in Tokyo before moving to New York City in 1981 to earn a Masters of Fine Arts degree at Pratt Institute. She has exhibited at New York’s Georges Bergès Gallery and the Brooklyn Museum, and at other prestigious venues on four continents. As an abstract painter, her work is influenced by a strong affinity for her native culture, and her life experience outside of Japan.
