This event has ended.
Noted for their bold patterning and dynamic color, Esmé Thompson’s paintings and multi-panel wall reliefs attest to a lifelong interest in decorative designs, ranging from Islamic textiles and tiles to medieval illuminations.
The artist writes: “I seek to make paintings that blur the boundaries between high and low art and celebrate the work people have made throughout time and across cultures. My work represents possibility and embodies change.”
The exhibition at Bowery includes the 84-panel wall piece Beatus of Arnhem, inspired by a recent trip to study aboriginal art in Arnhem Land, Australia, as well as canvases, painted metal relief pieces and embroideries.
