This event has ended.
Kentler International Drawing Space is pleased to present Imagined Language, a solo exhibition of new works on paper by Hannah Israel.
Imagined Language investigates themes of connectivity, mapping and memory. Interested in the relationships among objects, Israel folds, cuts, coats and sculpts paper to create ambiguous forms that evoke strange familiarity. Dynamic wall, shelf and table arrangements invite dialogues and juxtapositions: organic vs. geometric, bright vs. austere, order vs. chaos. The work’s attention to line, texture, sheen and volume reveal paper’s fragility as well as its tactile dimensionality.
This multimedia, site-specific exhibition includes two and three-dimensional graphite drawings, prints, weavings, hangings and assemblages. Israel’s muted color palette, mysterious objects and intricate compositions draw the viewer in and create a sensitive space for reflection, wonder and affinity.
A brochure with an essay by Shannon Fitzgerald accompanies the exhibition.
