This event has ended.

FiveMyles presents Barbara Campisi’s new large scale installation. In this all-encompassing maze-like environment, LEDs form colored lines of light when reflected off translucent ‘walls’, confounding any sense of orientation for the visitor.

The installation is made of corrugated, translucent plastic panels joined together at different angles throughout the space, to create a maze. LED lights placed behind and around the panels transform into colored vertical, horizontal and diagonal linear light. The colored light-lines are reflected onto opposing walls, creating a multiplied effect of colored lines projecting around all of the surfaces. The public/ collaborators/ viewers will be given an LED light in order to create their own light lines on the piece.

When a viewer enters inside the piece, questions of focus come into play; depth perception breaks down and the optical experience become one of disorientation and denial of associative value for the sake of pure sensual indulgence.

Barbara Campisi began to work on this project in a cave during a residency in Cappadocia, Turkey. The feeling of scrambling through a disorienting maze of ancient caves was the inspiration for this amazing installation at FiveMyles.
