Josh Kline “Climate Change: Part One”
47 Canal (291 Grand St.)
This event has ended.
47 Canal presents Climate Change: Part One, the beginning of the fourth chapter in Josh Kline’s science-fiction cycle. In his new installation, Kline continues to utilize the vocabularies and strategies he has developed over the last decade, using material transformation to describe a future changed beyond recognition by human-made climate change, global warming, sea-level rise, and nationalism.
Since 2014 Josh Kline has been at work on a major cycle of installation-based projects concerned with the unfolding political, economic, technological, and biological changes that will shape human life in the 21st Century. The cycle began with Freedom (2015-16), first shown in the 2015 New Museum Triennial and then as a solo exhibition at Modern Art Oxford, UK (2015); and the Portland Art Museum (2016); and continued with a second chapter Unemployment (2016), shown at 47 Canal, New York and Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin, Italy. The third chapter, Civil War (2017), was presented as a solo exhibition at Stuart Shave / Modern Art, London, UK.
