“…Yet, a photograph is never just a representation of the past. The couple perforates the past, producing a black hole, a rupture in time and space. The image evokes a constant NOW, where past, present and future are all the same, and the confinements of anthropocentric time perception is suspended…” - from an essay by PHILIPP RHENSIUS

1972 is the collaborative performance-based photographic work by Rachel Monosov (Israel) and Admire Kamudzengerere (Zimbabwe). The first full edition (16 works) was acquired into the permanent collection of the Block Museum at Northwestern University, and part of the second edition belongs to the Fondation Blachère. The series is currently showing at Site131 in Dallas, and at the Center for Contemporary Art and Culture at PNCA, Portland alongside names including Hassan Hajjaj and Mikalene Thomas. This Spring, 1972 makes its African debut at the Dakar Biennale. This exhibition becomes a cross-gallery show on April 1, when a site-specific installation opens at or Zimbabwe space, CTG Harare.

After individual solo shows with CATINCA TABACARU New York, this is Kamudzengerere’s and Monosov’s first exhibition with the Gallery as a duo. In 2017, they presented collaborative works at the Zimbabwe Pavilion of the 57th Venice Biennale, and the 11th Edition of the Bamako Biennale.
