The Story of Kudzu from Tradition to Sustainability Kudzu Cloth Innovation Project at Tama Art University

TAMA Art University Alumni Association’s NY Club was established in 2003. We currently have a membership of over one hundred: mostly Tristate area residents plus some residents of Japan. Twenty member artists will participate in this exhibition.

HAFH is an acronym of Home Away From Home. There are two meanings, two points to this title. The first is to be conscious of our identity. The other is to present creations that break through our own barriers by making our efforts in New York, the center of the world’s art market.

The first HAFH Exhibition was in 2004; this is the thirteenth HAFH exhibition. HAFH has earned a top reputation as a fully fascinating exhibition where participating artists display their unique expressions and sensibilities.

It has been held in many locations, including galleries in Chelsea and at the Hammond museum in North Celum, New York. The exhibitors have tried various challenges each time. In the Tenri gallery, which became the exhibition place from 2012, their large space and a high ceiling give exhibitors the possibility of further challenges.

As a collaborative exhibition for this year, we have the exhibition “ The Story of Kudzu from Tradition to Sustainability”by the Kudzu Cloth Innovation Project at Tama Art University in the front room. Members of this exhibition have been developing new utilization of the traditional fiber Kudzu by collaborating with local traditional productions in Kakegawa, Japan. This show will introduce the joy of living with Kudzu cloth and how it can be integrated into our contemporary lifestyle. All of us sincerely appreciate your attendance.
