This event has ended.

Kravets Wehby Gallery presents American Beauty, a group show of work by Alison Blickle, Theresa Chromati, Naudline Pierre, Jamea Richmond-Edwards, and Allison Zuckerman.

In America, our nude history is defined by Playboy: centerfold girls turned into mythological creatures on a daybed. The five women artists in American Beauty have taken back their bodies from history. Depersonalized vulnerability isn’t sexy anymore. Instead, these women snub the tired, man-made clichés. This is what it looks like when the female gaze is turned onto itself. Each of the artists use collage to redefine their identities, whether physical collage in the work of Theresa Chromati and Jamea Richmond-Edwards, Allison Zuckerman’s digital sampling of imagery, or Alison Blickle and Naudline Pierre’s metaphoric collaging of themes throughout art history.
