This event has ended.

Cavalier Galleries presents Explorations by Francine Tint. A selection of 8 – 10 of Tint’s latest outstanding and large scale abstract paintings will be on view. Tint’s signature style is characterized by bold, expressive bursts of color and gravitates toward large canvases. She will often stretch canvas across the walls and ceiling of her studio, resulting in the drips and gestures within the paintings that have become a key component of her work.

Karen Wilkin, in a 2008 review, wrote of Tint’s then current paintings “With their acerbic hues and fierce gestures, they can be seen as both affirmations of her belief in the power of intuitive, non-figurative painting and as a non-ironic commentary on, say, Gerhard Richter’s simulacra of color-based, gestural abstraction. Tint’s aims haven’t changed, but the context for her work has, allowing — or forcing — us to consider it in new ways.”

As a female artist making her way in the time of a mostly male body of Abstract Expressionists, Francine was a standout in breaking into the “boys club”. She studied painting at Pratt Institute as well as the Brooklyn Museum College. Tint’s work has been exhibited in over thirty solo shows in the United States and Europe and is in the permanent collections of over 27 museums including the Clement Greenberg collection at the Portland Art Museum, Bass Museum of Art in Miami and the Krannert Art Museum in Chicago. Her work is in private and corporate collections including Anthony Caro, Nicole Miller, William Edward O’Reilly, and Citibank, Pepsi and Pfizer. Tint is also the recipient of the prestigious Pollock Krasner Grant and the Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation.
