Curated by Tatiane Schilaro

Featuring fifteen emerging Brazilian artists based across the US and Brazil, LAND+BODY=Escape subverts traditional representations of Brazilian landscapes and bodies. The artists escape, while also seizing upon emblematic images of Brazilianness: from beachfronts to the Amazon rainforest, to the urban megacity. With a majority of women artists represented, identity, race, gender, and sexuality become either underlying themes or are an integral part of their art-making processes. The landscape and the body are re-imagined throughout the show: conflated, or fragmented, parts of blurred, destabilizing memories.
