This event has ended.

SOHO20 presents a new exhibition of reductive paintings by member artist Lisa Fischetti.

Although her process of removing and altering the gridded surface continues the works from her 2016 exhibition, here Fischetti also adds layers of plant material: stems, pods, and portions of leaves exist alongside spacial absences.

Fischetti explains these dual gestures of reduction and layering as a consideration of our present ecological uncertainty, heightened by political events of the last two years. Likewise the addition of plant material is a reference to both the longstanding practice of pressing petals, and still life portraiture. Each reference is an effort to retain nature in its present form. “In a way it’s an attempt to locate hope in a situation that feels desperate; at the same time that life is passing, there’s also still growth,” she notes.
