This event has ended.
This first solo exhibition of paintings by National Artist Mineko Yoshida brings together a body of work from the Stripe Painting series first created by the artist in 2017.
For the creation of these works, Yoshida starts by spray painting “stripes” onto 60’’ x 60’’ special Yupo paper (recyclable and synthetic waterproof paper) where they act as lines of a notebook, or lanes on a wide highway. The “strophes” which live in between the stripes and reference the first division of a Greek choral ode are the abstract characters that seemingly dance around the perimeter of each lane. These are added spontaneously - a technique that allows the artist the structural freedom in her work that she enjoys.
