The Journal Gallery presents “Rose and Torey on Paper,” an exhibition including new paintings on paper by Kent-based painter Rose Wylie (b. 1934) and Brooklyn-based painter Torey Thornton (b. 1990).

Rose Wylie currently lives and works in Kent, UK. She studied at Folkestone and Dover School of Art, Kent, UK, and the Royal College of Art, London, UK, from which she graduated in 1981. Wylie has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions, including, David Zwirner, London, UK (2018); The Serpentine Sackler Gallery, London, UK (2017); Choi&Lager, Cologne, Germany (2017); Turner Contemporary, Margate, UK (2016); David Zwirner, London, UK (2016); Space K, Seoul, South Korea (2016); Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin, Ireland (2015); Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg, Germany (2014); Choi&Lager, Cologne, Germany (2014); Haugar Vestfold Kunstmuseum, Tønsberg, Norway (2013); Tate Britain, London, UK (2013); Jerwood Gallery, Hastings, UK (2012); and The Rosenwald-Wolf Gallery, The University of the Arts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2012). Wylie’s work can be found in prominent collections throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia, including the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, California; National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, D.C.; Space K, Seoul; Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg, Germany; Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, UK; and Tate, London, UK.

Torey Thornton was born in Macon, Georgia, and currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. He received his BFA from Cooper Union, New York, in 2012. Thornton has been the subject of solo-exhibitions at Shane Campbell Gallery, Chicago, Illinois (2018); Jeffrey Stark, New York, New York (2018); Moran Bondaroff, Los Angeles, California (2017); Shane Campbell Gallery, Chicago, Illinois (2016); Albright–Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, New York (2016); Stuart Shave/ Modern Art, London, UK (2015); OHWOW Gallery, Los Angeles, California (2014); Galerie TORRI, Paris, France (2014); and KARMA Gallery, New York, New York (2013).
