This event has ended.

Figureworks presents Michael Sorgatz’ latest series of paintings at Figureworks. This is Michael’s third solo exhibition at Figureworks.
A Brooklyn-based artist, Michael’s new series features a collection of paintings inspired from figures in his urban environment. He continually explores this theme in his work, though, as we have seen throughout his career, he explores new directions to execute them, while retaining his signature style and vibrant color choices.

Michael has always masterfully combined brush and palette knife throughout his paintings. Still using this technique, he has additionally poured paint directly into areas of these compositions and allowed it to drip and pool throughout. It has abstracted the figures even more and given another layer of depth to the compositions.

Michael says of his work, “These works combine vibrant color with an assortment of painting techniques to create highly textured and dynamic surfaces. There’s a wide variety of subjects in the paintings, from mythological creatures and legendary quests to urban landscapes. All of these influences reflect off one another and recombine, forming a kaleidoscopic display”.
