About Japanism:
A group of 43 emerging artists from the Japanese Contemporary Artist Team (JCAT) have come together to express their Japanese identity through art. The “Japanism” exhibition is the first collaboration between One Art Space and Curator, Arisa Itami. The exhibition features works of art where the only restraint is maintaining a 12” x 12” size. The origins of this exhibition can be traced back to a casual conversation between Arisa and Dan Giella (Owner, One Art Space) discussing the beauty of record jacket designs. The works of art individually reflect the Japanese culture through the artists’ lens. The exhibition itself reflects the Japanese minimalist approach. The intention of this exhibition is to expose the New York fine art community to Japanese culture before the 2020 Olympic Games that will be hosted in Tokyo, Japan.

About JCAT-NY:
JCAT-NY, short for Japanese Contemporary Artists Team in New York, is a unique, creative artist team based in New York. Their mission is to represent young, talented Japanese artists from around the world and to assist them on their path to successful careers. JCAT scouts talented artists from all disciplines and spreads the word about their talent through their online database as well as through yearly exhibitions. JCAT strives to open the doors of opportunity for each of their artists so they can pursue their passion and make a living off of their talent. JCAT believes that every artist deserves to create a career from what they love to do, and JCAT is here to make that a reality.

About Curator; Arisa Itami:
In 2008, after encounters with many artists and driven by the concept of “making art a part of life,” Arisa successfully established her own art gallery. She then moved on to operate the “Ouchi Gallery” (Brooklyn, New York) for 10 years where she provided countless opportunities and an activity space for young artists. Also in 2008, she planned an origami project, teaching children in Nigeria about the “art of a piece of paper.” In 2012, Arisa had exhibitions in Canada and Italy (the 100 Artist Exhibition in Italy). In 2014, she wrote “What Schools Don’t Teach About Becoming an Artist”, which became a best seller in Amazon’s Art Education. Arisa is currently the director of the Japanese Contemporary Artists Team (JCAT) in New York, where she helps young artists step into the art world. In 2016 she received the “TIME OUT NEW YORK LOVE AWARD” for the most loved local gallery in Brooklyn. Arisa is now an international independent curator based in NY.

About Risako Ishikawa:
Risako Ishikawa started dancing classical ballet at the age of 5. Her search for an original way of expression led to the creation of a new performance style, dancing and painting with ‘pointe shoes’. She performs by dropping acrylic paint on a canvas laid out on the floor. When dancing on it, beautiful colors spread under her feet. It liberates the soul and body. Dance is like a dialogue of energy. The audience and dancer exchange emotions and feelings in collaboration. The final painting captures the invisible dialogue of energies between the dancer and the audience.
