This event has ended.

Naomi Nemtzow returns to painting directly from observation with a series of 15 plein air paintings of her quiet Brooklyn neighborhood. Combining oil paint with pencil drawing, the artist vividly captures the specific color and light of the events playing out all around: the chattering neighbors, windblown branches, and gesturing trees. The exhibition also includes drawings and collages inspired by the vital landscape spaces of Bellini’s St. Francis in the Desert.
Reviewing Nemtzow’s 2012 show, Peter Plagens praised the visual poetry of her collages, noting how they “… exude a palpable sense of hope, in this age of technical sleight-of-hand, for guileless art.”

There will be an artist’s reception 3-6pm on Saturday, April 28.
The artist will give a gallery talk at 3:30pm on Saturday May 19.
Concurrently on view at Bowery: Rita Baragona: Cadences
