This event has ended.

I am interested in what makes people believe in what they believe in. I am interested in this complex and dynamic push and pull of thoughts and beliefs, rationality and scientific knowledge, across cultures, and throughout histories.

Songs for Presidents presents Yunmee Kyong’s solo exhibition Matter of Belief, curated by Claire Falkenberg. Through paper pulp sculptures, narrative paintings, and textile wall pieces, Kyong conjures a curious world of inquiry and objects, faith and realism. Kyong’s work exists in a realm that is neither real nor fictional, continually pointing to the ambiguous space between the every-day and the mystical.

Yunmee Kyong received an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Exhibitions include Insa Art Center (Korea), Metaphor Gallery (Brooklyn), International Print Center New York (New York), Philagrafika (Philadelphia), Flux Factory (New York), ISE Foundation (New York), Waiting Room (Japan), and 18 Gallery (China). Residencies include The Lower East Side Print Shop Key Holder Residency (2011), The Gowanus Studio Space Printshop Residency (2012), Vermont Studio Center (2012), and Centre d’Art Marnay Art Centre Residency (2007). Yunmee Kyong lives and works in Peekskill, NY.
