This event has ended.

For her second show at Bowery Gallery, Karen A. Davie has painted shapes and characters from a fantastical, personal realm that would bewilder Alice in Wonderland herself.

What is Davie’s character the “Spectator” marveling at? Is it the grandiose “Orator,” commanding our attention even as Easter Island statues silently loom? We follow “Running Dogs,” but towards or away from … what? The artist renders such spectacles in vital forms and exuberant colors, and in the process these elements take on a life of their own; Davie describes her own surprise at “a pink conundrum, reappearing as the head of the pink horse.”
Davie received her MFA from Yale University and attended the New York Studio School.
