SARDINE presents a solo show of new work by Trevor Reese titled Buster Keaton.

The construct of Buster Keaton’s film characters becomes the basis for the overall show. Buster Keaton was a director/writer/actor during the silent-film era of the 1920’s. Reese’s sculptures are charged with pathos much like Keaton’s downtrodden, but never defeated, everyman. The sculptures and their arrangement also share a sense of instability and illogical combinations. Reese typically sources materials that are new or used and, with subtle manipulation, attempts to modify viewers’ preconceived ideas. These modifications imbue the works with a vulnerability and somewhat human sensitivity. For instance, included in the show are sculptures that incorporate a sterile aortic heart valve, crutches, a cactus, a weather radio, and a pair of worn shoes on the sidewalk next to the gallery entrance.

Trevor Reese (b. 1979 Augusta, GA) lives and works in Savannah, GA. His recent exhibitions include pyrrhic victory at Whitespace Gallery and two simultaneous shows at Day & Night Projects – And yet* / the squid and the whale. Reese completed his MFA at Georgia State University in Atlanta as a recipient of The Dean’s Fellowship. His work has also been included at PS122, Mixed Greens Gallery, Delaware Center for Contemporary Art, Athens Institute for Contemporary Art, and the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, among others. His work will be included in Stove Works’ (Chattanooga, TN) inaugural exhibition series, Land and Sea, curated by Mike Calway-Fagen and Daniel Fuller. This is his first solo show with SARDINE.
