Kim Hyung Dae “HALO 1980 - 2018”
Baahng Gallery
This event has ended.
Baahng Gallery presents a solo exhibition, HALO, by Kim Hyung Dae. The exhibition features Kim Hyung Daes highly anticipated HALO series of paintings and woodblocks from 1963 to 2017. This is his first exhibition in New York City since 1994.
HALO highlights Kims inventive painting practices and signature woodblock prints. Inspired by color field painter Hans Hoffmans push/pull spatial theories referencing nature as a source of art and conviction that art has spiritual value, Kim explores painterly intelligence in pictorial structures and color relationships. HALO is an opulent beauty that is massive and illuminating, the artist Kim Hyung Dae is a traditionalist and a radical.
Kim Hyung Dae was born 1936 in Gyungki-do, S. Korea. He graduated from the Dept. of Painting at Seoul National University and participated among Post War Abstract in Korea and the West at Ho-Am museum in 2003 and a comprehensive retrospective at National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Korea in 2016.
