“Stop Making Sense” Exhibition
Transmitter
This event has ended.
Transmitter presents Stop Making Sense, a group exhibition featuring works by six artists, to be announced just days before the opening of the exhibition.
Stop Making Sense is a collaborative project in which all six Transmitter co-directors have agreed to select one piece by an artist who remains unknown to the rest of group until the day of installation. This exhibition turns conventional curatorial practice upside down and seeks to deconstruct the traditional barriers in place when organizing group shows. This obstacle will force the group to make quick, intuitive conceptual and formal decisions that may result in entirely new revelations about the artists, the work, and our own curatorial predispositions.
We are hopeful that the element of surprise we are imposing on one another will translate into excitement among our audience as well. It’s unlikely that any of the selected works would be shown together had we decided on a different premise for the exhibition. But, for all we collectively know, we’ve curated a solo show. Leaving a lot to chance and opening ourselves up to potential accidents, we hope the results will be refreshing and playful. We’ll have to wait and see.
