This event has ended.

Figureworks presents a new series of paintings by Joachim Marx entitled On the Line. For many years, Marx has been working on a series of 8” x 8” paintings on board. It has provided a pleasurable release from his much larger oil on canvasses, which can take many months to complete. In his earlier series, he incorporated finely detailed figures floating within richly textured grounds. This latest series has reduced the figure to simple lines that now float above the paintings on a separate sheet of glass. Bringing this work to a new level, he has created hand-painted frames, uniting the process beautifully.

Marx says of his work, “My first solo show at Figureworks in 2008 was entitled Samasati. That was supposedly Buddha’s last word. It means remembrance in the sense of remembering our true nature. That show consisted of paintings depicting detailed figures floating or falling in undefined surroundings. Against a sumptuously textured backdrop that invites meditative contemplation, the figures seem removed from daily life struggles and evoke a psychological state of not being in control. The small works in this new exhibit, On the Line, are derived from those earlier paintings.”
