This event has ended.

WhiteBox presents the works of famed “media man” Fred Forest in our upcoming exhibition, “The Territory of the Square Meter Fights Back!”. For the occasion, WhiteBox will become a modest unofficial branch of the Pompidou Center, presenting emblematic and critical works by the artist.

After being exhibited this summer at the Pompidou Center, taking a cue from the Star Wars saga (a cosmic struggle between forces of good and evil, the corrupt and the pure), the Territory fights back using its own means of information and communication-including a website produced specifically for this show, which Forest considers an online exhibition in and of itself. At stake is the future of the artists of tomorrow and their ability to create and circulate their works independently.

A real museum put on exhibit by an artist-there has never been anything like it before in the history of art! However, one good deed deserves another, so the artist is devoting an entire exhibition to the venerable institution that organized a major retrospective of his work just a few months earlier. In the broader framework of his body of work, which has always been driven by bold institutional and political critique, Forest considers this returned favor a simple gesture of goodwill. Not wanting to be outdone by the unstinting kindness lavished on him by the French Director of the National Museum of Modern Art and his young curator during the preparation of his exhibition at the Pompidou Center, Forest wishes to thank them for their eagerness to grant his every wish. Except, of course, for some minor omissions and shortcomings, a non-exhaustive list of which can be found on this very site. We cannot ignore the fact that after so many years of camaraderie this artist continues to be discriminated against by the Pompidou Center in comparison to other contemporary artists…artists so polite and domesticated that you would like to invite them all home for dinner…artists who have enjoyed a more advantageous standing than Forest ever since a certain infamous trial in the 1990s-clearly the act of a madman—in which Forest recklessly attacked the Pompidou Center for a lack of transparency.

“Equality,” the beautiful word inscribed on the pediments of the statues of the French Republic is routinely flouted by an elite system that only serves the vested interests of rich and powerful insiders.

The aforementioned trial against the Pompidou Center proved to be fatal because the vindictive sons and grandsons of the establishment are determined to make Forest pay for it forever…even when they finally welcomed him into its halls.

Fortunately, the Force of the Territory of the Square Meter has already managed to spoil the beautiful and harmonious spectacle of its own retrospective at the Pompidou. The Force is the ultimate guarantor of justice and shall not fail to prevail at the right moments during upheavals already underway and those that are yet to come in the world of art.

Let us not lose faith. The Territory is one with the Force and the Force is with the Territory!
