This event has ended.

Organized by Katy Dammers and Tim Griffin, Charles Atlas: the past is here, the futures are coming features two new video installations. His piece 2003 combines video portraits of New York City-based artists working in a variety of disciplines, with found television footage from the title year. Ranging from performance artist Julie Atlas Muz and writer Eileen Myles to choreographer Yvonne Rainer, these pieces were first created in 2003 as part of Atlas’ project called Instant Fame! at Participant Inc., New York. The project involved Atlas creating portraits on-site in real time, simultaneously projecting a live video mix in a separate gallery space. The second installation entitled The Years is a large-scale, multi-channel video graveyard that functions as a meditation on the relevance of Atlas’ work in an unknown future. For more information about the exhibition, please visit The Kitchen’s website.

The exhibition is accompanied by The Kitchen Follies, a series of performances showcasing a range of artists chosen by Atlas and staged as a performance art variety show. Atlas will film each performance live, projecting back manipulated footage in real time. For tickets and more information, please visit the event page here.
