Penelope Umbrico’s new exhibition, MONUMENT, explores the monolithic state of current technologies in relation to their obsolescence. Starting with the idea that all technologies are “black boxes” to most users who engage with them, Umbrico’s major installation – in the form of a large wall of stacked, broken LCD TVs and other works – acts to demystify this notion.

MONUMENT also functions as a residency space, with Umbrico and other artists often on site, creating an evolving installation from donated e-waste, or helping visitors disassemble and transform their broken or unused devices.
