“Art by Liniers: Macanudo, The New Yorker, and Good Night, Planet” Exhibition

Liniers is the creator of the daily strip Macanudo and graphic novels for younger readers, including the critically acclaimed Good Night, Planet. Since 2014, he has been a cover contributor to The New Yorker.

This exhibition at the Society of Illustrators- Liniers’s first major exhibition in the United States- showcases more than 125 pieces of original artwork from Macanudo, Good Night, Planet, and The Big Wet Balloon alongside select process pieces and covers from The New Yorker. The exhibition will be on display from March 20th through May 5, 2018.

For the last 16 years, Liniers has been writing and drawing Macanudo, which has been published daily in Argentina by La Nación since 2002 and as English-language collections in the United States (Enchanted Lion Books) since 2014. It has grown to be one of the most celebrated cartoon strips in South America, and Liniers has become one of the continent’s most popular cartoonists-currently boasting more than 950,000 followers on Facebook and more than 760,000 on Twitter.

His graphic novels for Françoise Mouly’s Toon Books include his Eisner Award-nominated U.S. debut, The Big Wet Balloon (2013), and Good Night, Planet (2017).

Liniers currently resides in Vermont, where he is participating in a fellowship with the Center for Cartoon Studies, teaching at Dartmouth College, and drawing Macanudo daily.

The exhibition Art by Liniers: Macanudo, The New Yorker, and Good Night, Planet was organized and curated by John Lind (curator of The Art of MARCH exhibition and 2017’s Will Eisner The Centennial Celebration retrospective) and Salvador Benedit.
