This exhibition is part of the LES Art Week which will occur from October 17 until the 21st.

On January 21st, 2017, despite many differences, rather than sitting in silence, thousands of women rose to the occasion, exercising their free speech and assembly, reminding the world about basic human rights. LMAKbooks+design finds it important to recollect this and is extremely pleased to present Still They Persist an exhibition of the FemFour’s collection of Protest Art from the Women’s Marches.

Inspired by the proliferation of artwork they witnessed, a group of four Ohio-based artists and arts advocates calling themselves the “FemFour” wanted to conserve these messages- not simply as an archive, but rather as an ongoing and alive debate. In this exhibition we present a selection of these voices of resistance and offer a platform to discuss and explore ways to keep engaged.

Women were often on the foreground to create a platform that allowed the voices of minorities, the disenfranchised, and the marginalized to be heard. In this exhibition we not only document the historic Women’s Marches, but also create an awareness of its vitality and its continuity, as we open the discussion of how we can keep being heard and create change. The exhibition likes to give a voice to those who are concerned about the issues that have only become more pressing as time goes on like immigration laws, global warming, gun violence, racial inequity, and reproductive rights-just to mention a few.

The FemFour was founded by Cal Cullen, Maria Seda-Reeder, Jaime Thompson, and Sara Vance Waddell in 2017. Since then, the group have amassed a collection of 270+ signs, posters, artwork, clothing and photographs of the day; self-published a first edition catalogue; and exhibited the collection at museums, galleries, universities, and non-profit around the world.
