Danziger Gallery in association with Yossi Milo presents an exhibition of new color photographs by Sze Tsung Nicolas Leong that continue his remarkable series “Horizons”.

While the observation of horizons sits firmly in the photographic tradition, from the romantic seascapes of Gustave Le Gray to the minimal abstractions of Hiroshi Sugimoto, Leong’s series of photographs begun in 2001 (and now going on 16 years) create an un-paralleled, vast, and unique picture of the world. Composed of near panoramic images of earth’s diverse terrains – from the savannah wilderness of southwestern Kenya to the elegant geometry of Venetian canals, from the rococo forms of Toledo to the luminous color fields of the Indian Ocean – each picture in the series is connected by a common horizon line that lines up in the identical position to form a continuous landscape that suggests a common bond and an ever expanding view of the globe’s surface. Collectively, these images transcend familiar boundaries to form unexpected relationships and a post-ideological view of the world.

This exhibition presents seven new and never before exhibited large scale prints including three new seascapes as well as a section of smaller works covering the chronological history of the series.

Sze Tsung Leong’s work has been exhibited internationally and is included in the permanent collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the National Galleries of Scotland and Canada; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C.; and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; among others. He is the recipient of a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship.
