Industrial Figures
Martin Frank

“This work continues exploring themes and techniques presented in my earlier exhibition titled Factory Work. Again using available light afforded by windows in these abandoned industrial spaces, I explore the vicissitudes of light, the contrasting angles and textures of brick and skin, of edifice and human form.”

Roam Free
B.T. Kim

“Love, hate, happiness and sorrow. They are like the clouds floating, here one moment, gone the next. All things are born alone, wandering with no destination. It is what it is. And I continue the journey to fade over the endless horizons.”

The Stranger’s Path and Future Obsolescence
David Kutz

“Inspired by an essay titled The Stranger’s Path by the renowned American geographer, J.B. Jackson, and the great panoramas of the early 19th-century, this 21-foot long, 210-degree panoramic work considers the commonality of the modern travel experience. Intermediate zones, such as the arcade connecting two non-places at Schönefeld Airport in Berlin and known as the “tunnel,” epitomize the experience of arrival and departure in today’s globalized world. Unlike the panoramic presentations of the 19th-century, there is no admissions price to view this picture.”

Street Moments — NYC
Jake Lambroza

“The streets are alive and beat to a rhythm of beauty and soul all their own. Created by billions of micro-dramas, the moments are fleeting. The camera captures and forever honors these moments, never seen before and never to be seen again.”

Signage: The Backdrop of Street Life in NY
Neil O. Lawner

“In many urban areas, and especially in New York, the ubiquitous presence of street art serves as a backdrop for life in the city. In this exhibit my intent is to capture the juxtaposition of the New Yorker living and working amidst the often-unnoticed presence of art in public places.”

Euro Integration
Roman Makhmutov

“In the XIX century, thirty-two small Russian settlements were renamed in honor of European regions that had been liberated or conquered by Russian soldiers. That’s how in the southern Ural mountains, villages gained names like Paris, Berlin, Warsaw, Balkans, etc. The photographer visited these places, searching for Russia’s cultural and economic connections with the West. This research digs into the depths of contemporary Russia while linking it with the outside world.”

2017 International Portfolio Competition
Faces Imagined
Audrey S. Bernstein

This collection challenges the traditional definitions of portraiture and encourages us to reconsider its meaning. The subjects in these photo paintings become enigmatic figures that stretch the boundaries of identity. Soho Photo Gallery’s panel of jurors for the 2017 International Portfolio Competition selected three portfolios for exhibition. Each portfolio will be on exhibit for one month. There were 177 portfolios submitted consisting of 2,853 images. The portfolios came from 32 states and 12 countries. Audrey S.
