This event has ended.

Danziger Gallery presents TX, a group show of the Yale Photography MFA graduating class.

Curated by Rick Moody, this year’s show presents the work of ten photographers with practices that are enthusiastically varied, yet united in their concern with photographic truth as it relates to our current moment in time. Together, these artists question the role of images as it oscillates between reportage and fine art, often blurring lines between the two.

Danna Singer, Bek Andersen and Matthew Leifheit engage with modes of portraiture that are firmly rooted in tradition, yet engaged with contemporary issues of representation and taboo. The works of Lance Brewer, Chau Tranh Vi and Anna Shimshak portray a respect for formalism and the versatility of the camera as a tool. Walker Olesen’s drawings and photographs confront the materiality of photography and inkjet ink, while Harry Griffin, Farah Al Qasimi, and Res draw from family histories to form new photographic narratives of power and desire.

The title of the show merges each individual title to form a chaotic, nonsensical whole: one that is sometimes tragic, often funny, and always earnest. Despite their clear differences in aesthetic, ideas and approach, these works are united in their fervent approach to questioning where we are, how we got here, and why.
