This event has ended.

usagi_newyork presents Growth, a three-person exhibition inspired by twentieth century philosopher Henry Bergson’s concept of creative evolution. In an inverse of Bergson’s teleological notion of evolution, Growth investigates the ways repetition, rhythm, and unpredictability of material drive artistic creativity.

Exhibiting artists are Dan Lam, Jaz Harold, and Yunjung Kang ー three artists whose work is informed by organic forms and physicality of the human body. Initially unthreatening and inviting to touch, their work explores the themes of dualities of attraction/repulsion, nature/artifice, grotesque, perception of beauty, and sexuality.

Dan Lam holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Arizona State University. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States and internationally and featured by New American Paintings, Juxtapoz, ViceCreators, DesignBoom, Maake Magazine, CreativeBloom, and numerous other Internet and print publications.

Jaz Harold is a Tokyo-based artist, designer, and illustrator. Her work has been shown both nationally and internationally, including at the MF Gallery Genova, Destination Art Space, Spring/Break Art Show, and Hankyu Osaka. Jaz’s work has appeared in BeautifulDecay, Juztapoz, Nylon Japan, The Huffington Post, ArtNuveau, and ArtSlant.

Yunjung Kang holds MFA degrees in Fiber and Textile Design from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, MI, and Dong-A University, Busan. Her work has been included in over fifty group and several solo exhibitions. In 2015, in conjunction with International Fiber Art Fair, Yunjung’s work was exhibited at the Seoul Art Center in Seoul, Korea.
