This event has ended.

Soloway presents a solo exhibition of works called Lazy Pricks. In this new group of allegorical paintings, Koch’s protagonists are anthropomorphic birds cast into unfavorable scenarios and environments. Set on a testing path, the birds are veered away from their goals in order to come closer to certain truths on the current state of humanity. In work that is steeped in absurdity and grotesque humor, Koch confronts the sinister sources of his creative process:

“There is a profound dread that drives my hand to paint. Dread, and the opposite of dread, I think, are dependent on one another, just as politics is an impermanent mask to the transcendent. I believe that paintings can take these sort of things on, and I aim to locate them when I paint.”
The exhibition includes a namesake non-prescriptive guidebook created by the artist, featuring a collection of drawings that range between the observational, the fictional and the autobiographical.*
