“Industrial societies turn their citizens into image junkies, it’s the most irresistible form of mental pollution.” -Susan Sontag

What are the most irresistible images in the collective American stream? In Grand Slam, Brendan Burdzinski re-appropriates the enticing and vibrant design of the ubiquitous icon and perhaps the most striking example of the battle for the American dream—the instant lottery game. In this series, scratch off tickets are digitally manipulated to create the desired effect, intervening in the cycle of consumption and disposal by altering it, repurposing it as art and recycling it into another system. At face value, Grand Slam attempts to scratch the surface of a new religion.
