Hyong Nam Ahn Exhibition

poster for Hyong Nam Ahn Exhibition

This event has ended.

Hyong Nam Ahn’s art is inspired by the quest for human dignity amidst the failures of mankind’s utopian experiments. The artist feels that though people naturally seek and share love and respect, they establish hierarchies that paradoxically undermine those same values. Within the results of that contradiction, he seeks the benevolence and beauty of the human spirit.

Ahn incorporates lights, sounds, and movements into his work and often uses metal wires and neon lights. He designed the main stadium torch tower for the 1988 Summer Olympic Games and has received numerous commissions for public sculptures, including from McDonald’s Corporation and Chicago’s McCormick Place.

Born in Korea, Ahn earned an MFA in Sculpture with Kinetics and a BFA in Painting & Experimental Art from The Art Institute of Chicago. His art has been presented at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and the Miami University Art Museum in Oxford, Ohio, and is on permanent display at the Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation and the Princeton Theological Seminary Library.

This exhibition is presented in collaboration with the Dongwha Cultural Foundation.
