AMERINGER | McENERY | YOHE presents an exhibition of recent works by Tracy Miller.
Tracy Miller’s paintings are exuberant expressions of color and pattern, filled with layered washes and thick splotches of bright hues. This calculated chaos gives her work a dynamic energy that pulses behind elements of still life.
Wry illustrations of food, flowers, and other everyday objects float amidst these bursts of vibrant color. Her compositions often feature classic American confections—candy bar wrappers peek from the edges of canvases while a swirl of white paint marks a Hostess cupcake. A deck of cards, a stack of glistening donuts, bursts of blooms in porcelain pots, and cakes in various pastel shades sit unanchored on her riotous backgrounds.
In a departure from the traditions of still life, Miller’s paintings are devoid of overt references to death and decay—she prefers displays of dreamlike decadence. Her inventive works undeniably express the joy that she finds in painting.
