David Goodman’s most recent work, which is the heart of this exhibition is on an intimate scale: a human archive built of torn T-shirts and indeterminate painted landscapes among other source material combined into a ritual object ticking off the passage of the artist’s life calibrated by events, phases, cycles and moments. Goodman’s frequent act of recycling his own work is not an aggressive or destructive gesture, but a slow process of filtration. The artist methodically distills his works over time, discarding sentimentality but heeding prophetic impulses that direct his practice towards its next landmark, and in so doing invents his own glossary of aesthetic motifs and expressions.
