Studio10 presents “Doubled” a sculpture exhibition of work by Jennie Nichols and Daniel Wiener. Both artists use mold making as their medium. Nichols’ works are more or less precise and true to the cast object, while Wiener uses molds as tools to create disparate forms in an improvised intuitive process.

Nichols’ work is an act of translation as everyday objects are mutated (or mutilated) through unexpected shifts in material. A cast iron radiator becomes an aqua blue silicon facsimile, remapping its thingness and at the same time underscoring its otherness.

Operating on the border between abstraction and figuration, Daniel Wiener’s heads and faces hang suspended in a crowd. Wiener’s masks reference various influences: Romanesque gargoyles, the Rat Fink comics and hellish Himalayan gods.

Jennie Nichols has exhibited work at Spring Break Art Show, Brooklyn Humanities Gallery, Art Helix, Pierogi Gallery, DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, John Michael Kohler Arts Center and UCLA Wright Art Gallery. Her work had been reviewed in Artcritical, East Hampton Star, The Boston Globe and ArtForum. She is a recipient of the Ford Foundation Scholarship and Grant, the Milnora Roberts Scholarship and A Full Scholarship to Harford Art School for Graduate Studies.

Daniel Wiener has had solo exhibitions at Leslie Heller Workspace, Pocket Utopia, FXFowle Architects Gallery, Acme Gallery, Vadstrup and Bie, Barbara Farber and Angles Gallery and others. Group exhibitions include BRIC, Mixed Greens, Mike Weiss and Feigen Contemporary Art. He has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Tree of Life Grant, a New York Foundation Grant and residencies at Alpert Award Ucross, Pilchuck Glass and Yaddo.
