This event has ended.

Olsen Gruin presents Summer Show at its new space, 30 Orchard St featuring internationally acclaimed Aboriginal artist Warlimpirrnga Tjapaltjarri and American painter Wesley Martin Berg.

Wesley Martin Berg is exhibiting a new selection of romantic works continuing his ongoing themes of flowers and tragedy. Building upon New York’s twentieth century Ashcan paintings and the portraits of Walt Kuhn, the thick impasto surfaces examine deep themes of pathos and American still life mythology. Painted in a shifting gray scale, these new works shift between existence and the waning darkness.

Warlimpirrnga Tjapaltjarri’s monumental painting depicts designs associated with the Rockhole site of Marrawa and the surrounding intermittent swamp. The site, located to the west of Lake MaKay (Wilkinkarra), is approximately 75 miles north-east of Kiwirrkura. In mythological times a large group of Dingo Ancestors travelled through this site on their way to Yulangu. Due to the sacred nature of deeper painting interpretations, no further information can be disclosed.
