This event has ended.

Jonny Star presents The Undone Ritual, her first solo exhibition in New York. Star has, in the past participated in various group exhibitions in the City, as well curating two international group exhibitions at Rush Arts Gallery (2015) and chashama 266 (2014) supported in part by the Berlin Senate Cultural Affairs Department and chashama NY.

From chashama 266, a tiny shop in the heart of Manhattan, Jonny Star invites us to a special intervention. For The Undone Ritual, Star creates an installation comprising her Free Your Soul tapestries, small-format bronzes and her typical Puffs, seat cushions. The shop window is to be cloaked, concealing what are deemed to be “explicit images” unsuitable for passing eyes. In the heart of Manhattan, in the middle of this city, a common ritual will unfold, veiled in secrecy.

On Sunday, March 26, from 4PM to 6PM, Jonny Star will present and sign her new monograph See Me, Feel Me, Touch Me, Heal Me (German/English), published by Distanz. Also on this day, a selection of invited artists, curators and authors will make their contribution to The Undone Ritual. The names will be announced on Jonny Star’s website.

Artist and curator Jonny Star (b. 1964 in Dusseldorf, Germany) lives and works in Berlin and partly in New York. Star’s work combines a variety of materials and media such as bronze, photography, and fabrics with elements of installation art. Her ensembles explore biographical experiences, sexuality, gender roles, and identity and how it is perceived by society. Jonny Star’s work has been shown internationally since 1996.
