This event has ended.

Soho Photo Gallery presents its October show will feature the winning entries from the 13th Annual National Alternative Processes Competition, images by artists of the Penumbra Foundation, a SPG artists’ group show, and a solo show of Sara Silks’ work titled Studies of Women, which focuses on the inner conflicts of young women as they journey to adulthood, all printed with various alternative processes.

The images submitted for this competition utilized a wide range of alternative methods, including, albumen, cyanotype, Van Dyke brown, platinum/palladium, photogravure, salt print, tintype, and wet-plate collodion, among others.

The juror for the competition is Morgan Post, photographer and professor of photography at Long Island and Fairfield Universities. He serves on the advisory board of The Penumbra Foundation in New York and teaches workshops across the eastern United States. His work has been exhibited and published nationally and internationally.

After reviewing almost 700 images Post selected 55 artists to participate in the show. First, second and third place as well as honorable mentions will be made by the juror at the exhibit. Of the work submitted, Post said, “These antiquated techniques are changing as they blend media and new technologies with the old. After weeks of exhaustive editing, the final images I selected blend a high quality of craft, concept, and direct intention.”
