Artemisa Gallery presents Opus, a solo show of paintings by Uruguayan artist Vicky Barranguet.

With an emphasis on motion and movement, the exhibition encapsulates how Vicky fuses together rhythm and paint to construct an ongoing visual dialogue between music and art.

Vicky Barranguet’s studies with painters Larry Poons and William Scharf propelled her to find a voice of her own and a colorful expression about life and music. Her spontaneous and daring works led to the creation of an open minded art approach, where she combines painting with music. In her abstract paintings, undulating and cascading colors capture the effusion of spirit and tone. Whether enjoying music in the confines of the studio or live painting in front of an audience, each composition guides her, fueling the creative energy that gives Barranguet’s paintings a unique texture, scale, and vibrancy. Each brushstroke fluidly swerves across the canvas, capturing the visual equivalent of rhythm and sound.

Vicky Barranguet was born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1973. In 1997 she moved to New York, where she studied with Larry Poons, William Scharf, and Frank O’Caine at The Art Students League of New York in Manhattan. In 2001, she was awarded with a Merit Scholarship from the judges and curators of The Frick Collection. Vicky has been the subject of solo and group exhibitions in New York, London, China, and Japan and her work can be found in private collections throughout Europe, Asia, North, Central and South America.
