Gallery d’Arte presents a solo exhibition The Shadow of Solitude: Jiwon Yoon.

Jiwon Yoon’s paintings seem, at first sight, to bring the paintings of American realist artist Edward Hopper to mind. Yoon’s enlivened brushstroke portrays all the scenery with natural elements such as clouds floating in the sky and the gentle ocean waves. Her landscapes, however, are not straightforwardly representational which means Yoon make people evoke nostalgia of their own through her painting. The scenes she has painted also represent the places she has made precious memories for a long time, just like the embracing her need for solitude and quiet time.

One of her new paintings, Spring, 2017, which may lead audiences’ eyes to the slightly off-center woman figure, because the bright gray paint against the dark window is the point with the most contrasts. A woman figure who are opening the door also interrupts the repeated horizontal pattern by the doors and both give the audiences a curiosity whereshe is entering on the painting.

Jiwon Yoon received her MFA and BFA from Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milano. She currently lives in Korea and continues her artistic journey by creating art works.
