This event has ended.

Swiss-born Louise Bonnet makes her New York solo debut with a set of four new paintings and eleven works on paper. Wakefield work refers to the Rhode Island town which has become her summer retreat of late and where all of the drawings were born.

Bonnet parades her signature protagonist through a torment of deceptively simple impositions: hair helmets, rope ties, attentive nipples and loopy noses abound. One feels echoes of Philip Guston’s Nixon drawings - politics aside - and the appreciation for detail reminiscent of a Domenico Gnoli. The endless drama of knots and folds play with restraint both physical and otherwise, suggesting sublimations to our own collective voyeur.

Louise Bonnet (born 1970, Geneva) has had a solo exhibition at Nino Mier Gallery, Los Angeles (2016) and has been included in several group shows including Summerfest 2017, Max Hetzler, Berlin (2017); Giles, Gagosian Gallery, Athens (2016); Surrreal, König Galerie, Berlin (2016); and The Mini Show, The Lodge, Los Angeles (2015). This is her first solo exhibition in New York.
