SARDINE presents a solo exhibition of new work by Stacy Fisher. How Far From

In How Far From Here, the process of making becomes an exploration of tactility through literal space and the language of abstraction. Paintings on layered sheets of paper are held up by push pins and are not entirely square. The act of pinning them up in this way along with their sometimes topographical composition refers to mapping, but the pathways they suggest are open-ended, filled with non sequiturs. The presence of lumber or wood constructions leaning, hanging, and placed in front of the wall components lends structure and order against the handmade quality of the paper, whose edges are more natural, uneven, and raw.

To travel is to move through time and space, to set out and encounter the unfamiliar. The experience of this exhibition shifts from imagery to abstraction in a way that mimics the digressive pace of a journey from one point to the next.

Stacy Fisher lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She is currently included in AVANT-GRAVE, a group show curated by William Crump at TSA NY which runs through May 7, 2017. Fisher has exhibited with Bravin Lee Programs, Jeff Bailey Gallery, Thierry Goldberg, Allegra LaViola and Horton (Manhattan), Regina Rex, Cleopatra’s, 106 Green, Outpost, Orgy Park, Ortega y Gasset (Brooklyn), LVL3 (Chicago), and Mass Gallery (Austin), among others. Her work has been reviewed by Sharon Butler in Two Coats of Paint, Andrew Russeth in 16 Miles of String, as well as Beautiful Decay, Art Critical, Artforum.com, ArtReview and The New York Times. Residencies include The Edward F. Albee Foundation, Vermont Studio Center, and Chautauqua. In 2016 she was a participant in Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s Process Space Program. She holds a BFA from Ohio State University. This is her first solo show with SARDINE.
