Bernaducci Meisel Gallery presents Size Doesn’t Matter, a survey of small works by over 70 artists, curated by Susan P. Meisel.

Eighteen inches is the maximum dimension for each piece in Size Doesn’t Matter. While the works may be small, the exhibition is expansive, featuring nearly 200 pieces including paintings, photographs, and sculpture. The curator, Susan P. Meisel, commissioned much of the work in the exhibition—a task that challenged many of the artists, who typically create paintings that are 6 x 9 feet, rather than 6 x 9 inches. But bigger isn’t always better. While the sheer scale of large works can be arresting, the intimacy of small works invite the viewer to take a closer look.

The exhibition’s title is tongue-and-cheek. While referencing the small scale of the artworks, it also alludes to the importance of quality. The show includes artists in the beginning stages of their careers, such as painters Dina Brodsky and Lorena Kloosterboer, alongside established and widely sought-after names like Ralph Goings and Bertrand Meniel. Aware of the changing trends in the art world, Meisel set out to create an exhibition that had something for everyone. While Photorealist paintings are the corner stone of the show, other realist works broaden its scope. Brian Booth Craig will exhibit beautiful bronze pieces of the female form; and Randall Rosenthal’s woodcarvings of mundane items are so lifelike, you might mistake his matchbook carving for the real thing.

A life-long collector herself, Meisel understands that some seasoned collectors may have smaller homes, or have already filled their walls and don’t have much space remaining. For new collectors, the smaller pieces allow an easier entry into the art market.
