Anthony Philip Fine Art presents “Chlorophelia: Works by Seren Morey,” an exhibit of recent mixed media paintings by the Brooklyn-based artist.
“Chlorophelia: Works by Seren Morey” is a celebration of the natural world at every level. Morey’s paintings both examine and re-imagine this hidden world. Drawing from investigations of the tiniest microscopic organisms to the astronomic, the artist sees threads that connect everything. Her work reinterprets that which the physical laws of our universe have yielded and challenges us to see beyond the literal to the magical within everything that surrounds us.
“I sometimes feel that I am creating biologically inspired self-portraits and internal landscapes, or even landscapes from some alternate sci-fi, yet to be discovered, dream world hovering in deep space,” says Morey.
Like some new lifeforms, Morey’s artworks establish themselves in a niche between two worlds. Morey uses advanced materials such as sculptural acrylic made with micro glass balloons for a lightweight body, and dispersion pigments to create this magical “alternate naturalism.” The results are remarkable, at once entirely painterly, and also highly sculptural.
