This event has ended.

In a career spanning over two decades, Liliane Tomasko has fashioned a unique and recognizable abstract language. Her subject matter is rooted in the domestic sphere: unmade beds, fabrics and linens contain an inner world exploring much larger existentialism issues.

Tomasko once said, “Painting has the ability to show us something all at once and affect us emotionally in a very direct way. It can reveal something about our being and existence, without having to be descriptive. It makes a space for intuition and the use of our senses”.

Marc Straus, founder of the New York gallery, commented on the new representation: “Liliane Tomasko is an abstract painter whose works exude a passion for her craft honed over her long career. These works are confident, fluid, and exuberant. When I first saw these new works I was reminded of a stunning show of de Kooning in 1975 at Forcade, NYC. In the same way, Tomasko demonstrates how mark-making can be so personal and beautiful. We’re delighted to be planning a full show of new work with Liliane”.

Liliane Tomasko was born in Zurich, Switzerland. She studied in London at Camberwell College, Chelsea College of Art & Design, and the Royal Academy of Arts. She lives and works in Germany, Barcelona and New York.

Her work is found in public and private collections worldwide, including IVAN, Valencia; Hilti Art Foundation, Schaan; Kunstammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Dusseldorf; Kunstmuseum Bern, Bern; Staatliche Graphische Sammlung, Munich; Stadtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus, Munich; Try-me, Richmond, VA, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, VA. She has shown internationally in both solo and group exhibitions, including at Lowe Art Museum, Miami; Phoenix Art Museum, Phoenix, Garrison Arts Center, New York; IVAM, Valencia and Casal Solleric, Spain, as well as in Vienna, France, China, and Germany.

Tomasko is currently in a two-person show with Sean Scully at the Centro Cultural Bancaja, Valencia, Spain, on view through January 15th, 2017.
