This event has ended.

Founded in 1916 by photographers close to – and breaking with - renowned photographer Alfred Stieglitz, husband of artist Georgia O’Keefe, the Pictorial Photographers of America (PPA) were not attracted to the more documentary, realistic direction Stieglitz intended to pursue at that time. Instead, these “pictorial photographers” believed it was necessary to promote and celebrate imagination, visual appreciation, and what they understood to be beauty and the artistic potential of photography.

Imagination, visual appreciation, and a deep love of photography are among the traits shared by members of one of America’s most enduring photography clubs. The exhibit is a celebration of the club’s unique history from 1916 to the present. Platinum to Pixel: Pictorial Photographers of America Celebrates Its First 100 Years will showcase current PPA members’ work as well as rarely seen images by early PPA members Dr. Drahomir Ruzicka (1870–1960), Ruth Doloboff Coleman (1904–1989), and others. A weekend program of presentations will accompany the exhibit throughout its duration.
